Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is Scotland's busiest airport, handling around 15 million passengers a year with direct connections across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and to North America. It sits west of the capital in Ingliston, just off Junction 2 of the M9. From Glasgow, EDI is a 55–70 minute drive via the M8; from central Edinburgh, 25–35 minutes depending on traffic and the tram line.
Arriving at Edinburgh Airport
Ground-floor arrivals hall, outside the baggage reclaim exit. Our driver meets you inside the terminal with a name board (meet & greet included on all arrivals).
Baggage typically appears 15–25 minutes after landing for European flights, 30–45 minutes for long-haul arrivals (Doha, New York, Toronto).
Aircraft to arrivals hall via UK Border Force is a 5–10 minute walk.
- EDI e-gates are open to UK, EU, US, Canadian, Australian, NZ, Japanese, Singaporean and South Korean passport holders aged 10+ — usually the fastest route through.
- The tram stop is directly outside the arrivals door — but with luggage, small children, or after a long flight, most passengers prefer door-to-door.
- ATMs and mobile-SIM vendors are in the arrivals concourse just after you exit reclaim.
Departing from Edinburgh Airport
Short 10-minute drop-off is available in the multi-storey next to departures. The kerb-side drop-off directly outside departures is chargeable — our driver uses the free zone by default.
Arrive 2 hours before European flights and 3 hours before long-haul. EDI security is efficient but queues form at 4:30–7:30 for the early wave.
- Check-in is on the main departures level. Fast Track security passes can be bought at the airport or via most airline apps.
- The main lounges (Aspire and No1 Lounge) are airside past security and are bookable from £30.
- For late-night flights, the taxi rank at arrivals can be very busy after 22:00 — pre-booked transfers avoid the wait.
